Hedi Slimane

Frances Bean Cobain Frances Bean Cobain

I don’t know a whole lot about Hedi Slimane apart from the fact that he is a design genius and the reason Karl Lagerfeld lost 42 kg (roughly 92.6 pounds) in 13 months in 2001, his explanation was “…I suddenly wanted to dress differently, to wear clothes designed by Hedi Slimane,” he said. I am still waiting for similar diet inspiration to hit me.

Hedi Slimane’s latest images (he is also a photographer… the man’s talents know no bounds) are of Frances Bean Cobain. Seems she has spent the last few years getting tattoos and practising pouty looks. The shots are dark moody and definitely portray her rock n roll heritage.

These are merely the latest shots on Slimane’s amazing photo diary.

The diary shots are all black and white and vary from beautiful rock n roll images to great shots of surfers and skaters.

New season, new shapes, new shooooes!

Tuesday, August 9th, 2011

If, like me you are always intending to get your shoes re-heeled but never quite get around to it the new shoe shapes are going to fill your heart with glee!

I keep telling myself that one day in the near future I look polished and wear pulled together outfits.  More often than not some element of my outfit is definitely less than perfect, most common being holes in tights or in the underarms of jumpers. Not content with there being visible evidence of my scruffy nature I often have audible evidence too, the scratchy sound of shoes needing to be re-heeled on hard floors. This sound more than any other mortifies me! The chunkier shoes shapes for Autumn Winter are going to give me a “get out of jail free card”. Even with my marching around town I won’t wear these down in a hurry!

Added bonus, the slightly chunkier shape will make the feet and ankles look dainty. I am going to pair them them with skinny tailored trousers in strong colours to try to gain new season kudos.

Some of my favourites are below:

 1. DVF Cumin Suede Rhiannon Block heeled shoe  €290 my-wardrobe.com

2. Christian Louboutin Morphing 100 calf hair pumps, €695 net-a-porter.com

Sunset-Strip-and-the-Andaz

The Andaz hotel on the Sunset Strip originally opened in 1963 as the Gene Autry Hotel, and has gone through many incarnations as the Hyatt on Sunset and the Hyatt West Hollywood, but regardless of the name, it has built up a reputation for being the ‘Riot House’, after which the current restaurant is named.

Due to its proximity to legendary music clubs like Whisky-a-Go-Go and the Roxy, the hotel has become the preferred hang-out for famous rockers like the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin and Ozzy Osbourne.  Jim Morrison used to call this hotel home  but after hanging by his fingers from a balcony he got booted out for scaring other guests. Little Richard lived here for almost a decade. Keith Richards threw a TV out the window, John Bonham drove a motorcycle through the hallways and Corey Taylor tried to jump off the 8th floor balcony. It is a 14-story hotel that includes a rooftop where the final tour party scene of  “This is Spinal Tap” movie was filmed.

There is no doubt about this hotels rock n roll credentials but just in case any anyone should forget there is an Ozzy Osbourne photo exhibit by Mark Weiss on the mezzanine floor and the play-list piped through the poolside sound system features current rock n roll greats like Muse and Arcade Fire along with Led Zepplin and previous famous hotel guests. I can’t wait to go back again someday as it is not often you find a hotel that strikes the perfect balance between cool and unpretentious.

ELMO SESAME

It seems it’s never too early to start teaching kids to manage money. Sesame Street have produced a range of videos on its website that teach small children the basics of a sound financial footing for life.

The perpetually 3-and-a-half year old Elmo considers his options between ‘Saving, Spending and Sharing’ in a series of adorable events in the ‘For Me, for You, For Later’ episode.

The video series is an alliance with PNC Bank in America and is part of a wider campaign to grow children’s knowledge of value and financial literacy at as young an age as possible.

From someone who doesn’t know her leveraged bonds holdings from her tracker mortgages- Who am I to argue with a bundle of high-pitched, red-furried cuteness!
